Gearing Up

Tomorrow at noon, I will go in and do my combination special fields exam and dissertation proposal defense. This means that I could very well be ABD by tomorrow afternoon. Yaaaaay!

But today I think I have to go to the student care center. I think I've got pinkeye in my other eye. Boo hiss.

Yay for ABD! Have a great time:)

Boo for Pink Eye. I didn't know you had it in one eye, let alone two!

I had pinkeye in my right eye about three weeks ago, and it cropped up in my left eye today. And the Student Care Center doesn't have any appointments till tomorrow morning. Boo hiss. On the other hand, I still have the medication from the last time, and the symptoms were exactly the same, so I talked to a nurse over the phone, and she said just to start the eye drops up again and if it seemed to be working by tomorrow morning, just to cancel the appointment I made.

So yay for having the eye drops right there?

Yeah, yay for the eyedrops. Trips to the school vet health service are a pain.

But how exciting to be almost ABD!

Little Sister Pony said that she wishes that the FDA would just switch that kind of eye drop to an OTC medication. She totally agreed with my asking to talk to the nurse instead of the appointment scheduler and asking just to start back up again with the leftover drops. I so did not need to schedule in a vet doctor appointment in and around the last day of class and studying for Special Fields OMG.

Well, since ABD sounds like a good thing, go ABD! whatever it is!

And Boo the pinkeye. Hope your dissertation goes smooth.

ABD = All But Dissertation. It's the official status of having taken all my classes and passed all my exams, and the only thing between me and the Ph.D is the dissertation. I will get to call myself a Ph.D candidate rather than a Ph.D student.

Oh, I didn't know what it meant either!

Good luck :-)

Thank you! Nineteen hours until showtime!

Hooray for you! ABD is great!

Pinkeye sucks though. I see you have some drops. I hope that clears it up without an appt. Going to the doc to catch something else is not a good pastime.

I cannot wait to be ABD. Frankly, I think I'm even looking forward to the exam tomorrow, because it means that it will be done two hours later.

I think everyone would be glad if I don't have to go in. The SCC is pretty crowded, and I don't want to spend an hour there for a five-minute look-see. The drops are starting to work already, I think, so that's good.

ABD - A Bit Daft?

All But Dissertation. I passed A Bit Daft years ago.

You are amazing. I'd be a nervous wreck the day before an exam and defense. I'm sure you'll do fine. A.B.D.!!

Not totally sure what pinkeye is, but I'm pretty certain it's not anything anyone wants. Glad you've got the drops on hand. Hope they take care of the problem and you can skip the clinic.

The good news is that my advisor has to dash off to another meeting right at the end of my event, so I know for sure that it will only be two hours and will end on time. And, as the Pony Parents have pointed out to me, I'm the expert on this particular topic; this is as much about me teaching my committee as them examining me. I'm as prepared as I'll ever get.

Pinkeye -- conjunctivitis. Your eye gets pink and itchy and dribbly, and it's contagious, so you have to keep very clean and put drops in your eye. Fortunately, I have the drops, and they seem to be doing their droppy thing.

I hadn't thought of that. Neato!

Got it. Inflammation, in the eye. Ouch! Glad the drops are working. I don't know how long it takes to clear up, but I hope it's soon.
