Straight No Chaser

I believe it was telperion1 who posted Straight No Chaser's "Twelve Days of Christmas" last year, which is one of the great holiday videos, right up there with the first two versions of Adam Sandler's Chanukah song and Weird Al Yankovic's "Christmas At Ground Zero."

Clearly, I am not the only one who thought this way -- Straight No Chaser got a recording contract out of this deal, and so here is their new holiday song, "The Christmas Can-Can."

Straight No Chaser was a collegiate a cappella group at Indiana University* that did a pretty hilarious video of The Twelve Days of Christmas" back in 1998. That video made it onto YouTube, became a sensation, and the guys got together again and were offered a recording contract and a tour.

*For some reason, American colleges and universities are lousy with a cappella groups. The Fairest College had at least five or six, for instance. I heard that someone was actually writing a dissertation on this topic, but I don't know the details.

Oh! That was on the radio the other day but I didn't catch who it was. Thanks for the link :-)

Yeah, they seem to have been getting a lot of air time recently. Good for them!

but mostly shopping, shopping, shopping!

Three of the reasons that Christmas drives me nuts. The thought of people going broke, taking out loans, and maxing credit cards to buy all the crap they can possibly fit in their houses is beyond ridiculous. Especially when it's crap that the kids will play with for a week and then forget, or that's so cheap it'll be broken in six months.

What screwed up values we, as a nation, have.

...wow, I didn't intend my reponse to be a rant, but it was! Sorry! heh.. I liked the song! :D

You know, it's weird. You hear all the horror stories of people shopping like that, and you see the news of frenzies in the shops, but somehow, I don't seem to know anyone who does that. I know people who do holiday shopping, but they all do it thoughtfully and within their budgets.

I wonder if anyone really knows anyone who is part of a shopping mob.
