Another Earthquake

So WBBM 780 informs me that the shaking that woke me up at 4:00 this morning wasn't my Chinese neighbors boogieing down for an early New Year's party, nor yet Godzilla stomping through Hyde Park. It was, in fact, another earthquake. This one was only a 4.3, as opposed to the 5.2 we got back in 2008, and it didn't echo nearly as far.

Oh, yawn. Ho-hum. Another earthquake . . .

Yeah, I remember that when I posted about the 2008 quake, you replied saying you'd slept through it. Maybe this one got your attention more because it was closer?

I suppose. There was no doubt about this one at all. I came out of a sound sleep hearing the pictures and loose objects rattling, and feeling the rumbling underneath. I had two dogs and a cat on the bed with me, and by the time I opened my eyes, they were already at Full Red Alert. The only thing I didn't know was whether it was a little one nearby or whether the whole danged New Madrid had just busted loose.

It was a little one nearby. During the day, the USGS downgraded it from 4.3 to 3.8, but that was still enough to shake people up.

I e-mailed my parents about it, and Dad Pony was impressed. He said that in the seventeen years that he was growing up in Chicago, there had never been a single earthquake. And now I get two in two years!
