Vibes Needed

Just heard this morning that Little Sister Pony broke her foot. The Pony Parents, along with Aunt and Uncle Pony, took off for China today, so they can't be there to support her. I got her a card and sent flowers, but I'm a thousand miles away, and I have to give a quiz tomorrow, so I can't just hop the next plane out. Can we all send a good thought or two to my broken-footed baby sister?

Thank you! Makes me feel a little bit better to know that she's getting lots of good vibes.

I'm sending good vibes. I've broken my foot, so I know how she feels. Does/can she drive? I drive an automatic so it wasn't an issue with me, but one of my friends drove a manual when she broke her foot and she had to rent a car because she couldn't clutch.

She does drive, and fortunately, she didn't break her driving foot (her car is an automatic). She usually takes the train to work, but she's going to drive while she's in the cast, because doing the train at rush hour is too much. She'll use a wheelchair at work -- fortunately, she works in a hospital, so they've got them just laying around. The only problem is that her apartment isn't at all handicap accessible. She got in today by sliding up the stairs on her butt.

SEnding good vibes from here too. It's awful to be so far away and knowing there's nothing else you can do...

If I didn't have stuff requiring my presence in Chicago, I'd so fly out to her and cab it from the airport to her place, just to help cook and clean for a few days. But alas, duty calls.

Thanks for the vibes. Makes me feel better knowing she's got people pulling for her.

She was kind of weepy on Wednesday, but I think she's perking up now. We called her from the singing on Thursday night and sang "Sounding Joy" to her, and she seemed pretty thrilled. And I just got the delivery confirmation on the flowers I sent her, so that should also help.

That is rotten luck. I hope she is at least not in much pain and that she figures out all sorts of ways to accommodate the cast and so on. I'll bet she is a pro at crutches before too long. And maybe they can get her into a walking cast soon.

Last time we spoke, she said that the pain had gone down, and she was getting to work on figuring out the crutches. Her apartment isn't really handicap-accessible, so I encouraged her to get a Peapod account for the time that she needs help, and we have a cousin who lives nearby who can also help. She said she has to do the crutches-and-fiberglass-cast for four weeks, and then she'll transition to a walking cast.

Sitting here quietly vibing in the dark.

Oh, what an inconvenience! I'm sure that will be more of a problem than pain (which has remedies). Still, other than the problem of getting in and out of her apartment, it sounds like she can cope pretty well.

You are a good sister.

Thanks for the vibes! Little Sister Pony says she's been feeling the love all week, and that it's made crawling into her apartment on her butt a little more bearable. She can't go to her spinning class; on the other hand, she points out, crutching around gives her excellent upper-body and cardio training.
