Howdy, Folks!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while; I took off to the East Coast for a couple of weeks, where I had a fantastic time with the Pony Family and my best friend in New York. Speaking of which, it looks like I got out of Dodge just in time to avoid the earthquake! Hope everyone's all right. We've had two in Chicago in the past five years, and I'm just as happy to not deal with another one.

I have not forgotten that I owe people a Germany picspam, and I'm working on that.

In the meantime, Science has checked in! Science says: Bisexual Men Exist. And, in other news, Obama is the President, Tolstoy wrote War and Peace, and the earth continues to move around the Sun.

Oh, Science. What will you come up with next?

Glad for you that you missed the quake (and soon Hurricane Irene), though it doesn't seem to have caused much damage. I'd never been in one before and thought it was a truck rumbling by at first. By the time the idea of an earthquake occurred to me, it was over. There was supposedly an aftershock later, but I didn't notice that at all.

Looking forward to the picspam when you can get it done.

Sounds like the East Coast earthquake was pretty mild as earthquakes go, and that's an entirely good thing. I'll have to check in with the Pony Parents about Irene once it's gone through, see if it'll be anything like Gloria in 1985.

Hope the Pony family came through alright. I remember Gloria being rough though I don't recall details. I'm stunned, and not in a good way, by the post-Irene video I saw coming out of Vermont.

You escaped an earthquake and a hurricane. Good timing indeed! What are you teaching this semester? How goes the dissertation?

My timing is excellent, yes it is! Just have to call the Pony Parents and make sure they're okay.

I'm not teaching this quarter, though at some point this year, I have a teaching obligation in my fellowship, so I'm working on a course entitled "Jewish Women's Paths To Religious Leadership," for some lucky religion department in the Chicagoland area.

I feel good about taking the time to plan this course, because I have two-count-them-two chapters of La Dissertation written! Drafts, of course, but the plan (such as it is) is to just pile up drafts and then spend time editing them, rather than draft-edit, draft-edit, draft-edit. That way lies madness, I think.
