Voltaire Would Have Said Something Snappy

Or Evelyn Beatrice Hall, who was the one who actually wrote the line "I disapprove of what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

I have to keep reminding myself that that sentiment is the basis of a free society. It's a freedom that I want to have, and in order to do that, I must afford it to others.

But, dayum. Sometimes, it's just so hard.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I find myself making evil pronouncements or declaring what I would do if I were in charge. Later, when I'm feeling more sensible, I reluctantly admit that it's a good thing I'm not in charge.

I'd definitely turn into a well-intentioned but evil despot, given half a chance. There are just some very frustrating people in the world who should be sat upon and gagged with duct tape, but I must remember that actually doing that is Not A Good Idea.
