Deep Breath

Have I got news for you!

Guess what, everyone?

There is now . . . a complete first draft of La Dissertation!

It still needs a lot of work, of course, but . . . it exists! If the Mayans were right, and the world ends in December, it doesn't matter. I have a complete draft of a dissertation!

ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG I'm going to graduate!

It doesn't yet feel entirely real, but with any luck, it'll sink in by tomorrow. I'm going to take a week or two to just veg out, and then I'll get to work on the revisions.

I can see what it's going to look like, now! It looks . . . different than I thought it would. Much more Jewish Studies than I'd anticipated, and much, much more political. And the thesis is bigger.

I think I like it. And I think I like even better what it's going to turn into after a few months of work.

It's really starting to sink in now that I've done it. It feels weird and exciting, and I think I have to take a few days off of being useful to get into it. But then, the pride will come in force!

You are officially amazing.

Thank you! Do I get a certificate and everything? (Wait, that's not until I've revised, defended, and graduated.)

Now I'll start in on an application to a job in Canada and a conference in Belfast.

I want to be Doctor Pony! And now, I can actually start to believe that that's going to happen!

(And I'm working on the Professor Pony bit. Also the Postdoc Pony bit, because hey, why not. I had a few good leads last week.)

Congratulations! That's the hardest part.

Thank you! I think in a few days, I'll be able to see just what kind of giant stride I've made. But for now . . . I can know that there is a dissertation, and it just needs polishing. And editing is the easy part, compared to the writing. And I have lots of time to edit, because I won't be defending until spring.

Congratulations! Take a couple steps back and enjoy what you have accomplished. That's the worst part, and now, on to polish!!!

I am definitely looking forward to taking a little mini-break now! I can sit back, work on some job applications and conference abstracts, and I think I can even allow myself just a little bit of time to be pleased with myself. Then, of course, I'll tear everything up and make it better.

Getting caught up....Hooray for you! I know that feels good!

It feels awesome! I've had some time to just veg out and do nothing useful, I can work on a few straggling job applications, get some conference abstracts out. And I'm feeling more and more confident about approaching the revisions, too.
