It's Official

Graduation was today. I am officially Dr. Pony. I got all dressed up in a lovely maroon robe and a black velvet hat and paraded around my neighborhood in them. My advisor hooded me and gave me a big hug, and then I got a mightily impressive-looking diploma. There were photos and champagne and a party and lots of Chinese food ordered from the best Chinese restaurant in Chicago. And best of all, there were lots and lots and lots of people, coming from California, Wyoming, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, Florida, Illinois, and the UK, who came over the course of the past ten days to celebrate with me. That was the absolutely best thing of all.

Now I am exhausted. But I am an exhausted Doctor, and that makes all the difference.

Off to the cantors' conference tomorrow.

Thank you! And your icon is very apropos, since the school did indeed provide a champagne reception immediately after the hooding.

Thank you! I'm still in a bit of shock, but it's real. I'm Dr. Pony. There's a diploma to prove it.

Thank you! It was an amazing moment when my advisor put that hood over my head. All those people in Mandel Hall watching. I really did it! I got my Ph.D!

Thank you! As for the best Chinese food in Chicago, see my answer above. Or possibly below, depending on how LJ threads things.

Thank you!!!!!!!

The best Chinese food in Chicago is to be found at the Potsticker House, which has both an American Chinese menu and a traditional Mandarin (not Cantonese or Cantonese-based) menu. We ordered mostly from the traditional menu.

Thank you! (And you know that I always choose my schools with an eye toward sartorial elegance . . . ) Maroon suits me, I think.
