Whew!

I found a new apartment. This is an enormous weight off my shoulders. The apartment I'm currently in, where I've lived for the past seven years, was part of University housing, which means that I get kicked out after graduation. My lease is up on August 31, so there was some urgency about finding a new, hopefully somewhat temporary, place to live (there are some long-range plans going on that I'm not quite ready to discuss in detail here yet). I thought I had a place on Tuesday, but it got rented out from under me.

Today, I went and looked at two more apartments, and one of them was the "good-enough apartment" that I was looking for. One bedroom, has a nice little dining room, three closets, ceiling fans in the living room, dining room, and bedroom. The view isn't quite as entertaining as my present apartment, but there will be far fewer howling sirens. And, since the lease begins on August 17, I have two weeks to colonize the new apartment at a somewhat leisurely pace. All of this makes me a very happy camper.

The place even has hardwood floors! I think the living room is big enough that we could still sing there, especially if some of the bookcases end up in the dining room and the bedroom to make space for more seating in the living room. The kitchen isn't quite as grand as my current one, but, hey, that's why it's the "good-enough" apartment.

But the most important thing is that I will not be homeless at the end of the month, and that's really a load off.

Plus, a pre-grad-school financial scheme has worked. Soon, I will be She Who Has Paid Off Her Student Loans, and I'll collect a sweet check in the bargain. Life is looking up.

I was a little nervous when another apartment I liked was rented out from under me, but I'm happy now. This apartment is both better and cheaper.

Believe it or not, it's on the first floor! No struggling up to the great singing loft in the sky! (Assuming my new neighbors will be okay with having singings there.)

Life is looking up indeed! This is all good news, especially paying off student loans + having some additional funds :>)

That moment when a nine-year financial scheme pays off is oh so sweet.

Sounds good. Uncertainty is so stressful.

Yes it is! Now that I know I won't be homeless, and I've agreed to trade moving help with a friend, I feel like I'll be able to focus more on the work I have to do.

Gosh, that sounds horribly stressful. I'm glad it all worked out and I hope you're happy in your new apartment. I can feel your relief from here!!

I think I'll like the new place. I have things arranged such that I don't have to pack my entire life out from under me. I can just sort of gradually . . . colonize the new place. I have a two-week window of time in which I have possession of both apartments, so I can shuttle stuff back and forth, and call in movers only for the big furniture. I'm hoping that this will make for a less stressful move.
