Can I Hear An AMEN?

T plus one hour and thirteen minutes. Le Thesis is DONE, DONE, DONE. Finito. Printed, copied, binder-clipped, enveloped, dropped off at the I.N.P.O.D.'s mailbox. It has shuffled off this mortal coil, rung down the curtain, and joined the choir invisible. This is an ex-thesis.

I, French Pony, have written one hundred thirty-four pages (that's with the appendices and bibliography, of course) of solid academia. There'll be a defense in April, and probably some revisions, but Le Thesis is DONE!

WAHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Now, I will nap. And then I will play tomorrow. And go out to dinner with a friend. And think about the conference I get to attend next weekend, where I will be Presenting A Paper for the very first time. Next installment of Pony's life: her academic debut. I feel like I should wear white for my presentation. . .

AMEN!

That's so wonderful. Go, sleep and eat and relax for a while. Funny how life still has to go on, isn't it?! But what an accomplishment! Well done :-)

Thank you! I feel so much lighter right now. The conference paper will be, as you say, a doddle -- and it'll be fun to go and hobnob with the real professors. I'll be playing in the big leagues!

But first, I will relax and finally, finally get to enjoy Spring Break! Thanks for the virtual drink! *chugs*

Thank you! I really feel like I've produced something big and worthwhile. Le Dissertation looms in the future, but right now I'm pretty happy just to have finished Le Thesis.

My conference is in lovely, scenic Bowling Green, Ohio, at Bowling Green State University. It's called "Trajectories of Memory: The Holocaust in History and the Arts." I'm giving a paper about music in Holocaust-themed film. One lady who wrote a book that I used for Le Thesis is going to be at this conference! That's so exciting.

I remember that you said that there was one conference that you went to every year. Is it this one? And is it always in Chicago? Because I'll be back in Chicago next year. . .

I go to two conferences every year, one in October and one in March. They move around. This March one will be in NY next year. They do that so people from different parts of the country can go.

Oh, well. New York is okay, too. I have a friend who's working in the theater there. If you're looking for something to do, I can find out from him what the good shows are.

Congratulations - excellent job. Le thesis is no more.

Play sounds good and well deserved. Enjoy it.

It is, of course, snowing heavily outside right now -- the kind of snow that makes it impossible even to think about going outside for anything, and makes you realize that staying in with a good novel and a cup of cocoa is really all that anyone has a right to expect of you today.

How considerate of it to wait until after Le Thesis.

Oh, thank you. This last shred of Spring Break (*cough* -- it's snowing heavily at the moment) will be mine to enjoy.

Thank you! It feels like a great weight has lifted off my shoulders. And now I shall relax and not go running around through the snowstorm. Unless I want to.

Hip hip hooray! Good for you, FP. I remember all too well what a good feeling it was to finish up and drop off the thesis. And your first conference presentation! Mine was fun. I took a friend with me and the youngest professor in my department as security blankets, but it went fine. Have fun!

Thank you! And I'm looking forward to this conference. I think it'll be neat to hang out with all the real scholars. I'm going alone, but that's okay. It'll be an adventure.

I feel great. I lazed around all day today, and I think I earned it.

I'll tell all about the conference after it's over. That promises to be a blast.

Thank you! It feels so good, like a big weight lifted off my shoulders. All year, the I.N.P.O.D. has been relatively mellow during thesis meetings immediately following delivery of chapters. Now that I've delivered the whole shebang, she was especially mellow today. Good times. And I'm going to a conference tomorrow, where I'll be presenting. Playing with the big kids now!
