Be Careful What You Wish For

Dear Universe,

Just because I might have made an idle wish to have a little more time to work on my seminar papers, it does not automatically follow that burning down the Dexter Building, which is right across the street from where I work, and therefore shutting my job down until Monday, is the done thing to do.

Good grief!

Well - it could have been worse, I suppose. It could have been your building.

But you should be careful what you wish for ... And maybe get a lawyer to check the terms and conditions before you press send.

And it could have happened on one of the four days a week that I work, too. My window looks out at that building -- it's literally right across Wabash from me. Seeing it go up in flames would likely have harshed my mellow. And the Dexter Building could have collapsed -- that's why they closed Columbia, because we're smack in its collapse zone.

ROTFL. Remind me to get well away of your thoughts...

Apparently, I am mentally dangerous. Or dangerously mental. One of the two.

I'm sure you want to use your powers for good, so it's obviously a matter of using utmost precision in your wishes.

Maybe that's my problem. Maybe I'm just a baby superhero.

Goodness! Remind me never to make you angry! ;)

Hey, Dawn! Don't make me angry.

Ok, you're officially scary.

Well, it's the perfect time of year for it, at least.

Wow. I fear your mad pyrokinetic skillz. :p

I totally need a "Carrie" icon. The Brian De Palma version, natch.

Be careful what you wish for, indeed! O_O

It was a major league fire, too. The firefighters were drowning that building for twenty-four hours straight, until it started raining yesterday to help them out. I think bits of the basement and ground floors are still smoldering. The Loop is still smoky, the CTA is still disrupted, and my boss is tearing her hair out because we work in an archive, and we have no idea what all that smoke has done to our stuff.

On the other hand, I did get work done on my papers. . .

Holy Cow, FP! That was a bit of over kill, I'd say. Seriously, that is scary. I'm glad you were nearby.

I was happily finishing up my history class at the time, and quite happy about it, too. My office window looks out at the Dexter building, and it would not have been cool to finish up work by looking out and seeing it go up in flames.
