Thanks, Pony. Hope you've had a nice Chanukah, too.

Oh, I have. Since the rest of the Pony family is on school break, we've been getting together, and I got to play with Cousin Boromir and Cousin Faramir, which is always a treat.

Doesn't that make you Lothiriel?

And you've reminded me of the wedding of 2006. How is Cousin Halbarad?

Plus is Chanukah better than Hannukah? Is it like Beijing and Peking? Am I terminally confused from having too much Christmas food? And wine?

Doesn't that make you Lothiriel?

Possibly. But I like being Pony better.

Cousin Halbarad and Bride are fine. They sent Mom Pony a couple of gift cards and a photo Christmas card (Bride is Catholic) featuring them in the mountains in their tropical wedding gear.

In Hebrew, Chanukah is spelled with the letter chet, which has a sound like the German ch in Bach. So, technically, it should be pronounced with that sort of back-of-the-throat rasping Chanukah. But, since English doesn't have that sound, and just under half the world's Jews are native English speakers, the sound often gets elided to just a plain h. So, most people pronounce it Hanukah. Either spelling is accepted, since it's a transliteration. Depends on how well you can pronounce chet.

Ho-Ho-Ho and a bottle of rum!

LOL. I think you're mixing your celebrations there, but the thought is welcome. Have you had a nice holiday at home?

I'd think rum figures prominently enough in eggnog and other seasonal consumables I may be forgetting that it's seasonal enough. :)

After all the hype and brouhaha of Christmas, wouldn't a bottle of rum be just what the doctor (or nurse practicioner) ordered? Anyway, pirates make any holiday more special.

I am. I got to watch the Cowboys-Eagles game with Uncle Denethor and Cousin Boromir last night, and that was fun. They were both pulling for the Eagles, and the Eagles won handily, so that was even better.

I am! And I'm going to New York today to see my best friend, who got us free tickets to The Apple Tree.

Oh, yeah. Uncle Denethor, Aunt Finduilas, Cousins Boromir and Faramir, grandparents, friends. . . I spent Saturday hanging out with this one friend I've known practically since birth. She took me out for my first manicure ever for my present, and brought me a really nice party dress that she no longer uses because I've been getting a little tired of my ten-year-old blue one. Thank goodness we're the same size. I just have to shorten the straps a little, and it'll be perfect.
