To the surprise of precisely nobody, King Richard II has won a sixth term of office as dictator mayor of Chicago. This will make him the city's longest-serving mayor, beating out his father, King Richard I. For the record, I didn't vote for him. Neither of the other two candidates had a prayer against the Daley Machine, but I figured I should vote for one of them so that Daley wouldn't be elected unanimously. And the candidate I picked did end up with 20% of the vote.

The 4th Ward in Hyde Park re-elected Toni Preckwinkle as alderman (alderwoman? alderperson?), possibly because we like saying her name. Preckwinkle Preckwinkle Preckwinkle. Unfortunately, the 21st Ward, way down around 87th Street, is going to have to have a runoff election. This is unfortunate, because one of their candidates, Leroy Jones, Jr., has been sending voicemail messages to me for two months. These messages are long, annoying, and they always come three at a time, identical automated messages . . . for a candidate I can't do anything for, because he is running in the 21st Ward, and I'm in the 4th. I hope that Mr. Jones does not feel the need to continue his campaign until the runoff on April 17. I was looking forward to Election Day partially because I figured that that would mean the end of the Jones campaign calls.
