Eize Keiff!! Mazal Tov!

I shall pass that on to her. In those words.

She is now a Registered Nurse, and is licensed to do generalized floor nursing at a clinic or a hospital, and indeed she is doing that over the summer. But that's not her real specialty. She's still in school, getting a master's degree in nursing, with the aim of becoming a nurse practitioner (NP) specializing in women's health. Are there NPs in Israel? Do you know what those are?

Are there NPs in Israel? Do you know what those are? Actually I'm not sure. I never asked.

I asked my Hebrew teacher today, and she thinks there are nurse practicioners in Israel.

There must be! People always need nurses, they do all the work with the patients.

A nurse practitioner is something different, though. What you're describing is a regular RN, a floor nurse. An NP is more on the order of a family doctor -- she performs physical exams, does diagnoses, and can prescribe drugs. Basically, when MDs started going into specialties for the money, no one was left to do regular old doctoring, so the nurses instituted a degree program so that they could train to do it.

Oh. Well, with the shortage in docs here there must be NPs here, too. Luckily I never had to investigate that.
Can she choose anywhere in the country where she'd like to do her "rotation"? Is that how it's called?

Well, she's still in school right now, so she's not picking out-of-state summer jobs. I don't actually know whether she'd have to get re-licensed to practice out-of-state. My guess is that it depends on the state. Some states have licence-recognition agreements with other states, and some don't.
