Pressing My Geek Buttons

So I'm taking this course called Principles of Teaching Writing, which is my quarter-long training to become a Lector in the U of C's Little Red Schoolhouse writing program. The way the class works is that we meet on Monday evenings for a plenary session in which we get the LRS lesson of the week. Then we break into smaller seminars to discuss the lesson further and talk about how to teach it to our own future students.

I would like to state, for the record, that the professor who runs my small seminar is the single coolest English teacher I have ever met in person. On Monday night, she managed to reference both The Lord of the Rings and Star Trek, thus hitting both of my biggest geek buttons, and hitting them hard, in one class.

I would like to say that I am in love with a tightly written Introduction, but I fear that I may just be using it because of the geek references that I will forever associate with that class.

This is why I have so much fun in a class that meets from 6 - 9 in the evening.

:-) Sounds like a cool class. I admit I am sucked right in by the geek references too. It's nice to have a fun teacher.

Hooray for geek buttons...and the people who know how to push them to purpose.

As the professor admitted, the U of C is crawling with people who have prominent geek buttons. Somehow, though, she always manages to feel insecure about putting geek references into her lectures.
