Today, the Pony faces her first students.

The small seminars have been assigned, and Lector Language Pony will be holding class today.

The world may never be the same again.

I'm excited about this. They've already turned in their first papers, so I've read a little of their writing and I know their basic areas of interest, but now I'm curious to meet them in person.

Go you! Sending many wishes for the right words your way - I know you'll do fine, but I'm still thinking of you.

And by all means, let us know how it goes!

I think it went okay. They seemed to like me, and we got through everything I wanted to get through in the allotted time. I think I can do this!

Of course not. It's going to get better.

There is now a Pony teaching out there in the world. My very first students. I think they like me. It seemed to go pretty well.

All the U of C undergrads are bright! This group was pleasant enough, and I think they liked me. They did as I asked and kept the discourse civil, and I think we all might have learned something, amazingly enough.

I'm glad to hear the first lesson was a success! I always envy people who can teach (and are actually enjoying it, too! *g*.) I've only tried it once--it was part of my assistantship--but I was so relieved that I only had to do the first half of a 101 course.

One of the nice things about the writing program that I'm teaching in is that they give you a full quarter of training before they turn you loose on students. That's way more than the TAs in other departments get, and it did give me something of a confidence boost going in.

So, did you both survive the experience? Everyone is willing to come back for another round?

I think we all came through it okay. They seemed to like me, we kept all discourse civil, they laughed at my jokes, and I think we all even managed to learn something.

Now I just have to finish commenting on their papers.
