Flowerpicspam for Nilmandra

Here's my contribution to the "Team Make Nilmandra Feel Better/Totally Jealous" event: pretty flowers as seen in Hyde Park today!

These were just some flowers that I thought were especially pretty while I was out today. Click on the pictures for a bigger image.

1. Some irises. I thought the deep purple was absolutely stunning.

2. More irises, with lighter purple spots.

3. A really nice garden rose, fully opened, and sort of speckled antique pink. It's a little out of focus, I think, but you get the basic idea.

Pretty. I loves irises. One corner of my backyard was filled with them. Then the voles ate them. I hatessss them. But I lovessss irises.

Irises are all dramatic, and they come in such lovely colors. If I ever have a yard, I might put irises in it.

Are they bulbs? That would be easy. Plant them once, and you get them every year.

Yeah. And they're happy to multiply.

That sounds like a plan, then. The maximum flower for the minimum effort. Totally my type of gardening.

I recently acquired some new houseplants. Perhaps I should introduce you guys to them sometime soon.

Mine, too! Daffodils also qualify.

Yes! Daffodils are lovely, and they should be in my garden, too, since they bloom before the irises do.

ROTFL!! She really has the nicest friends :-D

Lovely photos. You're right, the deep purple is gorgeous. And that's a very unusual looking rose.

Last I heard, she had taken drugs in preparation and gone out to plant flowers. I was reduced to saying, "have fun."
May. 31st, 2008 10:28 pm (UTC)
Mmmmm, drugs.

Perhaps our TMNFB/TJ efforts have had a bit too much of an effect. . .
May. 31st, 2008 11:05 pm (UTC)
She's probably passed out under a bush.
May. 31st, 2008 11:22 pm (UTC)
There are definitely worse places to be passed out. And she'll have Nani to lick her face. Dog breath is just as good as smelling salts.

LOL, my neighbor came over and sat with me to ensure I did nothing stupid nor passed out from the drugs. I planted a few more pots and the neighbor kids will get them hung/placed for me later, when the thunderstorms are over. :>)

Well, we all do our part. . .

The deep purple looked so soft and velvety, I was just drawn to it instantly.

LOLOL... yes, she does!

I have those color irises! Of course, they're not even thinking of blooming up here yet. I mixed mine with white.

And that rose looks like a Chicago Peace rose, with a little vinca next to it. Very lovely.

Yes, these make me happy and only a little bit jealous, as I'm slowly getting my pots planted! I'll be happier once Jim the gardener breezes through next week and cleans up the weeds.

A Chicago Peace rose would be appropriate in Hyde Park. But I'm not sure about the vinca. The plant that Mom Pony identified for me as vinca looks rather different than that one.

I think I'll have irises someday when I have a yard, if I have a yard.

We'd have to see a close up to know for sure.

This is a nice random shot off the Internet of a vinca flower:

I'd get pics of mine, but its pouring down rain :p

I like vincas because they look similar to impatiens but can withstand the sun.

Hmm. Mom Pony's vincas look rather different. But I also learned to call them periwinkles when I was little.

Very pretty.

I had a very nice shrub rose when I lived in Wisconsin - a Bonica. Then roses wouldn't grow well in Virginia because of the humidity (I'm not saying nobody can get roses to grow there; just that I couldn't). This yard has rose issues also. I miss roses.

I've heard that roses are hard to grow, and some rose bushes I see look really tiny and pathetic. But when you do get one of them to bloom, it's absolutely amazing.
Jun. 1st, 2008 05:27 pm (UTC)
Oh I love irises. When I live in Kentucky we had thousands of the second variety you have there in the pictures. You are makeing me nostalgic. :-)

Irises are great. They're so dramatic, and from what people tell me, they sound like they're not nearly as much work as they look like.
