The two buildings, each within two blocks of my house, who have decided that now is the perfect time for major de/construction work. Involving jackhammers on parking lot. Starting precisely at 8:30 in the morning.

Soon, I will be far, far away from this.

Hours for manual labor in the U.S. tend to be on the order of 7 AM - 3 PM. This is why white-collar workers heading to work at 9 AM may often see construction workers taking their mid-morning break.

It will not comfort you, but the day I was flying on vacation I had a press conference scheduled at 6:30 am!!!! Only serious shouting and scowling convinced my assistant to try and move it... to 7:30!!!!

Clearly, this assistant needs a serious talking-to. From a sleepy and bushy-haired perelleth at 6:30 in the morning.

My first thought was... hmm.. construction may happen in Lithuania too...

But hopefully not.

Depending on how bad the heat was, we sometimes started at 6am. :>)

But in Lithuania, I'll be in Yiddish classes in the morning, so maybe it'll be in a quiet part of a building.

Oh no! I hatesss that. The worst is when they ring the doorbell at 7am to ask you to move your car out of their way...

It won't be long now FP! You should be at least at the mentally packing stage.

This week's activities include a houseclean and a laundry. Then I can pack once all the clothes are clean. But I have been considering what I'm going to take, buying supplies, and figuring out what goes in both in the duffel bag and in the backpack. Heavy books and school supplies go in the backpack. Clothes and toiletries go in the duffel bag (so I can bring full-sized items; they can go through checked luggage, but not a carryon), so it'll be lighter.

It would be a wonderful extra benefit if the construction is completed by the time you get back.

The main road near us is, and has been, torn up for ages. It's like taking a very unpleasant theme park ride to drive over it. Given the "speed" at which road construction is finished around here, I doubt that even going to Lithuania and back would help.

It probably will be done -- the building is another U of C-owned building, and they try to have most maintenance done by September first, since that's the Move-In Orgy.
