Thought For The Day

The world is a large and lovely place, and has room for many things. There is a place in this world for thinly veiled softcore gay pornography.

The academic journal Nineteenth-Century Music is not that place.

This has been your Thought For The Day.

LOL is right! This article was actually embarrassing to read. I hope I never meet the author at a conference, because I just might start laughing when I see him.

Actually, I just Googled him, and it turns out he's been dead for six years. So that's safe.

Do I take it that the copy of Nineteenth-Century Music was somewhat dated? Or is the author contributing from beyond the grave?

And you could always take a picture of the author to conferences just to make sure there is something to amuse you.

The article was from 1997, so it's not all that old, as musicology articles go. Still counts as fairly recent scholarship.

Journal articles in the humanities tend to age well, for the most part, so that you can expect people to be reading, teaching, and studying for comps with books and articles that are both "recent scholarship" and "classics."

*snerk*

I'll spare you and not ask for details. (I have a good enough idea anyway having read some "literary criticism" that strayed in this direction.)

It was a lot funnier once I'd read it and could then snark it with my fellow students, who had also read it and been less than impressed.
