Ikh Bin Gekimen!

Hi everyone! I'm back in the U.S. -- my plane arrived on Saturday, and I spent Saturday and Sunday in New York with a friend. I'm now at the Pony Parents' house, and will be back in Chicago on Thursday afternoon, ready to start sorting my pictures in preparation for several large picspams!

Vilnius was Le Awesome. Further details to come.

Thank you! There are lots and lots of pictures, so I have to think about whether to group them by themes or just chronologically. Preferences?

welcome back!
Old quarter and riverside cafes!
THough the chinese banquet sounds exotic enough in VIlnius!

I was very surprised to find out that the best Chinese food I've ever had was to be found in Vilnius, of all places!

Themes might be best for this kind of a picspam parade.

Welcome home! I'm glad to hear you had a good trip. Can't wait to hear the vignettes:)

By the way, someone was asking me the other day why we cover the challah on Shabbat and I realized I don't know the answer. Do you?

The vignettes will probably dribble out long after the picspams are complete.

why we cover the challah on Shabbat and I realized I don't know the answer. Do you?

Not off the top of my head. But I could ask around and try to find out.

Ok. I am not in a hurry for the answer:)

Looking forward to dribbled vignettes;)

Yay, it arrived! It's kind of a leap of faith, sending something off to a strange address like that, but the Lietuvos Pastas came through, it seems. Good that hubby was amused -- I take it he was amused by you getting a postcard with Hebrew characters from someone you've never met before? Because that really is amusing. I hope my German wasn't too bad -- thinking in Yiddish tends to distort my German, but I think I managed to keep the two languages separate at least for the duration of a postcard.

"Di franzeyzishe Poni" - which I totally love by the way. I want to hear you say that! :-D

As a native German speaker, I promise that you'd be disappointed. That particular Yiddish phrase happens to be very deytschmerish, or Germanic, and it would sound to you like someone saying "Die französische Pony" in a very strong, if somewhat difficult to place, rural accent. More impressive would have been if I'd had enough space to write it out in Hebrew characters and then been able to read it for you -- hearing Yiddish read out loud while being able to look at the script at the same time is quite amazing for people who know German.

People who speak German can generally understand most of what's said to them in Yiddish, Slavic- and Hebrew-derived words and Slavic-influenced grammar blurps aside.

There are lots of pictures, even selected for LJ. You may regret that enthusiasm later on . . .

Welcome home! I look forward to the pictures and your tales of adventure (make them up, if you have to).

Oh, I don't have to make anything up, especially the concert and the Chinese banquet!

This being The Artist Formerly Known As Nilmandra, yes?

I had a fantastic time! You'll get sick of stories and pictures soon enough, I promise.
