I voted today!

I didn't see Obama there, which was probably a good thing. It meant that the polling place wasn't clogged up, and my friend and I could get in and not have too long of a wait for a booth. Seems that Illinois offers both pen-and-paper ballots and touchscreen ballots. I got the regular pen-and-paper one, but I heard an election worker giving one lady instructions on how to use the touchscreen.

We didn't get stickers, but we got warm fuzzy feelings anyway.

Each state reports in after its polls close and they've had time to count the votes. Consider that the continental U.S. alone runs through four time zones, and you begin to see why election night is an all-evening event.

Yeah, people were still voting when I went to bed and I just turned on the tv to discover you have a new president!

We don't start counting until 9am the following day but yanno, one time zone... ;-)

One kind of weird thing is that, with the way the Electoral College is arranged, one can call the election even before the polls close in Alaska and Hawaii. The residents of those states traditionally vote in a done deal (although 2000 was a fluke).
