Those people who will be in Chicago for the upcoming weekend should consider stopping by the 2009 University of Chicago Folk Festival. It'll be on Saturday and Sunday at Ida Noyes Hall, which is at 59th Street between Kimbark and Woodlawn. This year, there is a fantastic lineup of music and dance workshops (I am so going to Steve Weintraub's Yiddish dance workshop, and I'm thinking that the Quadrilles and English Dance workshops will be worth checking out, too.) There's Georgian folk singing, juggling, Irish sessions, Cajun dance, storytelling, bhangra, all sorts of things. And, of course, Sacred Harp singing on Sunday afternoon, 2:30 - 4:30, in the West Lounge.

Heartily recommended, especially as we go into the grotty ass-end of winter.

Yeah, I'm jealous. This weekend I'm going to be writing the 12 page research paper that I have due on 2/10 that I haven't even chosen a topic for (so, does the fact that I'm completely unconcerned about this tell you anything about the quality of my education?) Post pictures or something afterward so I can live vicariously. :-)
